Virtual College

Online Learning Resources for School Governing Boards

Ilkley (UK), March 2017 - Virtual College, a purveyor of online education and training packages, is to produce online-learning courses for the National Governors’ Association to use as induction for new school governors.

Virtual College is to produce eight new, engaging online-learning courses for the National Governors’ Association, an independent charity that aims to improve the educational standards and well-being of children and young people through supporting and promoting outstanding governance.

The new online-learning resources are for use as induction for new school governors, trustees, and clerks in maintained schools and academies in England.

As schools become more autonomous, the role of the school governor is more important than ever. Governors are skilled volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds and professions and have a crucial role to play in raising school standards.

Virtual College will create immersive and relevant eLearning content to engage with this diverse audience. Each of the courses will be around 45 minutes in length.

The modules will be easy and convenient to access via Enable, Virtual College’s cloud-based learning-management system. The association will be able to migrate all of their existing learners to this powerful and flexible learning-management system, branded for the National Governors’ Association.

Paul Aber, Head of Training Development at the National Governors’ Association commented, "It’s essential for governing boards to commit themselves to good induction training. Governors and trustees should be in no doubt about what their powers and responsibilities are and how to carry them out.  We think induction training should be high quality, low cost, tailored to the individual, and accessible 24/7. Virtual College shares this vision, and we are very excited to be working with them on this pioneering project."
